UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA – The 19-year-old woman who was killed in a hit-and-run accident in University Place on Sunday has been identified as Marchalakia “Merci” Johnson of Kent, reports the News Tribune.
This is an update to this previous post.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office say she died as a result of several blunt force injuries sustained in the head-on crash.
According to authorities, responding deputies found the victim dead in a demolished Mazda 3 when they arrived at the scene on 35th Street West. They also found a damaged Cadillac STS that had been abandoned about a block east of the Mazda 3.
There was a black shoe and evidence the hit-and-run driver was injured left at the scene. After authorities traced the Cadillac to a 17-year-old in the hospital, they confirmed the shoe belonged to the teenager. A sample of the suspect’s blood was drawn at the hospital for drug and alcohol analysis.
We will continue to update this blog if more details are released.
