PIERCE COUNTY, WA – An unsecured truck load was to blame in an 18-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 South in Pierce County on Friday, May 1.
Washington State Patrol trooper Kameron Watts first reported the crash at 7:11 a.m., in anX post, saying it happened between 72nd Street and State Road 512. Debris from the unsecured load struck 18 vehicles.
#HappeningNow on Southbound I-5 between 72nd St and SR-512. Troopers have contacted 18+ vehicles which struck debris lost by a commercial vehicle. The driver was cited for unsecured load and placed out of service. Please expect delays if traveling in the area.

WSP has not said if anyone was injured, but did say they cited the driver for their involvement in the crash.
WSP did not announce any lane closures, but told drivers to expect delays as crews worked to clean up debris from the crash.
