SEATTLE, WA — A 26-year-old man faces charges after a suspected DUI crash Monday afternoon that hurt himself and a passenger on Interstate 5 near downtown Seattle, reports the Washington State Patrol.
The collision took place on the collector-distributor ramp from I-5 southbound to Ysler Way, shortly after 3:30 p.m.
According to officials, the man was driving a red 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer in lane one of the ramp when he veered to the left and crossed all lanes before hitting the concrete wall along the left shoulder. The Mitsubishi then came to rest on the roadway, blocking two left lanes.
The WSP press memo indicates both the driver, an Issaquah resident, and his passenger, a 28-year-old man, were transported to Harborview Medical Center. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed, but the driver was said to have not been wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Following the crash, charges of DUI and vehicular assault were filed against the driver.
The Mitsubishi was totaled and was towed from the scene.
