SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — Two children were hospitalized Friday after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a road near southeast Edmonds, reports Lynnwood Times.
Edmonds police responded to the scene at the corner of 220th Street Southwest and 80th Avenue West, in the Esperance area, shortly after 3:00 p.m.
According to authorities, a family of four was in marked crosswalk as they crossed southbound on 220th Street Southwest. At one point, an eastbound vehicle failed to stop, striking a 15-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy.
Both children were transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. As of Saturday, the teenage girl had been discharged from the hospital, but the young boy remained there in critical but stable condition.
A woman and another child in a stroller were not reported injured.
Police said the driver, a 61-year-old Mountlake Terrace resident, stayed after the crash and cooperated with officers. No impairment was suspected at the scene, but it was unclear whether any charges are expected to be filed.
An investigation remains ongoing.
