News: Two children ejected, seriously injured in SUV crash near Colfax

WHITMAN COUNTY, WA — Two young children and a woman were hospitalized Monday morning after a serious SUV crash on state Route 26 near Colfax in Whitman County, according to PullmanRadio.

The Washington State Patrol said a 33-year-old woman was driving an SUV on SR-26 eastbound at around 5:00 p.m. when she fell asleep at the wheel. The SUV traveled off the roadway, at which point the woman’s two passengers, an 8-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy, were ejected from the vehicle.

Though the woman had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, state troopers discovered neither of the children were wearing one.

The children were transported to Spokane’s Sacred Heart Medical Center and the woman was taken to Whitman Hospital in Colfax.

An investigation by the WSP remains underway.
