News: Teenage boy rescued from Lake Meridian in Kent

KENT, WA — A teenage boy was taken to a hospital Tuesday evening after nearly drowning in Kent’s Lake Meridian, according to KOMO News.

Onsite witnesses were able to pull the boy from the waters and perform CPR before medics with Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the lake on Kent’s East Hill at around 7:40 p.m.

The teen, reported to be about fourteen or fifteen years of age, was rushed to a hospital where his condition is currently undisclosed.

According to officials, Kent had only last week cancelled the city’s lifeguard program at Lake Meridian due to a low number of qualifying applications.

No official cause has been reported, but emergency responders said shock from the lake’s cold waters is often a cause of drowning, even under unusually hot weather.
