News: Teen runner injured after getting hit by truck in Puyallup

PUYALLUP, WA – A teenage runner was seriously injured after getting hit by a truck while crossing the intersection of 7th Street Northeast and 2nd Avenue Northeast on Monday. 

Kiro7 said the teenager, a Puyallup High School student who is part of the cross country team, was running with their teammates and coach when they were struck. An eyewitness claimed the runner put his hand up to the truck, but the driver did not stop, and the collision occurred.  

The incident occurred before 4:00 p.m. and warranted a quick response from police. The coach gave the injured runner medical attention prior to the medics’ arrival. 

First responders did not specify if they transported the teenager to a hospital. 

The driver, 27, exhibited no signs of impairment and cooperated with police, but was arrested in connection with an unrelated misdemeanor charge.
