PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 17-year-old girl was ejected and seriously injured in a high-speed wreck that hurt three other teens near a Spanaway Walmart, reports FOX 13 Seattle.
The collision occurred on the northbound lanes of Mountain Highway East (Washington 7) near 8th Avenue East, at about 12:00 p.m.
Officials with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said a Subaru was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when its driver began turning into the parking lot at the Walmart Supercenter. Moments later, the speeding car hit a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The impact of the crash caused the Subaru to roll onto its roof and strike a tree.
First responders rushed the ejected teen to a local hospital with serious injuries. The other three occupants, all 18-year-old males, were also taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Authorities said the driver of the Silverado, a 69-year-old man, was not reported injured.
A single lane of Mountain Highway East was closed in the area as investigators worked the scene.
At this time, impairment is not a suspected factor, but speed is believed to have played a role.
