News: Street race leads to fatal crash in Spanaway

SPANAWAY, WA – A 58-year-old Puyallup man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash police say was caused by an illegal street race.

According to Komo News, a teenager in an Acura was racing a 27-year-old man in a Honda Civic east on 174th Street South at around 12:30 p.m. The Acura ran a stop sign at SR-7 and collided with a pickup truck driving southbound.

The 58-year-old pickup driver died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Acura and a 16-year-old female passenger were taken to a local hospital with injuries.

Police reports stated the driver of the Civic fled the scene but was later apprehended. Both the Acura and Civic drivers potentially face charges for vehicular homicide and reckless driving.
