BRINNON, WA – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 Saturday evening resulted in significant damages and one injury.
According to Peninsula Daily News, the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Classic, identified as 20-year-old Shaleah J. Sinnett, was speeding in the rain on Southbound Highway 101. Sinnett lost control of the car and crossed into oncoming traffic. A southbound 2013 Subaru Outback swerved to miss the Chevrolet, but could not avoid a head-on collision.
Local authorities reported the accident happened near Yelvik General Store at milepost 303 around 6:14 p.m. Sinnett was cited for speeding during wet roadway conditions. Another passenger of the Chevrolet, 19-year-old Austyn B. Cox, was cited for not wearing a seatbelt.
One of the passengers of the Chevrolet, 18-year-old Brooklyn E. Barnet, was injured in the crash. She was transported to Jefferson Healthcare Hospital for minor injuries and released that evening.
Speed limits exist to keep everyone on the road safe. While it is always important to follow them, when it is raining it is especially necessary, due to the inherent dangers of slick roads. If someone breaks the law and speeds when it is raining, the chances of them losing control of the car significantly increases.
