SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A shoplifting suspect crashed her car Saturday while fleeing authorities on Interstate 5 near Lynnwood, according to KIRO 7 News.
Lynnwood police said the crash happened near 220th Street Southwest, shortly after the suspect fled a Fred Meyer grocery store.
Authorities said the events unfolded when the woman used pepper spray on an employee after being caught shoplifting. Responding officers attempted to stop the suspect from leaving in a vehicle, but she fled the scene, hitting a patrol car in the process.
Police later found the suspect’s vehicle on fire after an apparent crash. They later learned the suspect had hitched a ride from a concerned passerby who was unaware of the situation.
It was unclear what caused the suspect vehicle to crash, but no serious injuries have been reported.
An investigation into the identity of the suspect remains underway.
