News: Several injured in fiery multi-vehicle wreck near Parkland

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Several people and a dog were rescued from a car before it caught fire Sunday afternoon due to a multi-vehicle crash near Parkland, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

Deputies with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at Spanaway Loop Road South and 138th Street South, in an area north of Spanaway. It was first reported on August 14, shortly before 3:25 p.m.

Witnesses told authorities a Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Spanaway Loop Road South at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light at the intersection. Moments later, it collided with a car that was turning left onto the northbound lanes of Spanaway Loop Road South.

Officials said the Mustang then proceeded southbound, where it hit four additional cars before rolling onto its side.

Witnesses rushed to remove all occupants, including a dog, out of the Mustang before it burst into flames. Deputies discovered none of those occupants had been wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck.

Multiple patients were transported to an area hospital, but it was unclear how many of those victims were occupants of the Mustang or the other involved vehicles. All reported injuries ranged from minor to serious.

At this time, no arrests or pending charges have been reported.

An investigation was underway.
