News: Series of crashes closes parts of I-90 near North Bend, Ellensburg

KING COUNTY, WA — Heavy snowfall and multiple crashes Thursday morning forced sections of Interstate 90 to shut down near North Bend and Ellensburg, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The incidents prompted closures on the eastbound interstate at milepost 34 near North Bend, and on the westbound lanes at milepost 106 near Ellensburg. They were first reported by WSDOT at 7:45 a.m.

Officials have not released information on the vehicles involved or the conditions of its occupants, but property damage was observed.

By 7:50 a.m., I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass was also announced closed in both directions. U.S. Highway 2 remained open at the time, but motorists with vehicles over a gross weight of 10,000 pounds were required to use chains. Those traveling on US-12 over White Pass were advised to use vehicles with traction tires.
