SEATTLE, WA – Seattle Police re-arrested a man in connection with a deadly 2024 crash that killed a 74-year-old woman and seriously hurt three others.
KOMO News said they first arrested 27-year-old Aboubacarr Singhateh on May 23, 2024, which was the day of the crash.
On the day of the crash, Singhateh was driving a heavy-duty pickup truck when he crashed his truck into a taxi at the intersection of Fourth Avenue South and South Washington Street.
Singhateh was speeding at the time of the collision, going over 25 mph past the posted speed limit, when he collided with the taxi, which was occupied by five people.
The impact of the collision entrapped the occupants inside the taxi. Firefighters had to extricate them. EMS crews rushed three female passengers, in their 70s, to a hospital. One of them, a 74-year-old woman, died.
Five days later, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Singhateh with vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular assault.
Singhateh reportedly suffered from an unspecified schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorder, and was deemed unfit to stand trial. He said he did not have the mental capability to understand the legal proceedings, and his case was dismissed.
Singhateh entered a treatment facility. The prosecutor’s office re-filed the charges against him, and he was re-arrested on April 3, 2026.
Officials booked him into the King County Jail.
