SKAGIT COUNTY, WA — A 62-year-old Sedro-Woolley man died Wednesday morning after being struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 5 near south Mount Vernon, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.
The fatal incident occurred on the southbound lanes near Exit 225 to Anderson Road. It was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation shortly before 5:00 a.m.
Details remain limited at this time, but the Washington State Patrol said the male pedestrian stepped into traffic and in the path of an oncoming semi. The driver was unable to stop the vehicle in time.
Officials confirmed the victim died as a result of his injuries.
A section of the southbound interstate was shut down for nearly 3 hours during the emergency response and investigation.
Traffic became backed up in the area as drivers were diverted to Anderson Road.
