News: Pedestrian fatally hit by car on SR-7 in Spanaway

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 40-year-old man died Tuesday night following a pedestrian collision on State Route 7 in south Spanaway, according to KIRO 7 Seattle.

The incident occurred on the southbound lanes of SR-7 at Eighth Avenue East, near the Walmart Supercenter. It was first reported shortly after 7:45 p.m.

An early investigation indicates the male pedestrian was crossing the highway outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a southbound car.

The victim died from his injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.

Authorities said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with responding Washington State Patrol troopers. He was not suspected of impairment.

A section of southbound SR-7 was shut down for over two hours during the emergency response and investigation.
