KING COUNTY, WA — A 52-year-old man died early Thursday after being struck by a vehicle in Shoreline’s Meridian Park neighborhood, reports KOMO News.
The King County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatal incident occurred in the 16700 block of Aurora Avenue North. Deputies were called to the scene for a pedestrian crash shortly before 2:00 a.m.
Authorities did not immediately share the sequence of events leading up to the crash, but a man in his 40s was driving a black Honda Civic when it hit the victim.
Officials arrived to find the driver administering CPR on the struck pedestrian. Deputies continued applying life-saving measures until medics arrived, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Photos and video footage captured at the scene show the striking vehicle’s cracked windshield, among other damage.
A section of northbound Aurora Avenue North was shut down for an extended time. At around 6:00 a.m., all lanes were reopened to the public.
An investigation remains ongoing, but the KCSO said drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors. No charges have been filed against the driver, who was said to be cooperating with investigators.
The KCSO’s Major Accident Response and Reconstruction (MARR) Unit is handling the case.
