News: Officer hospitalized after crash with suspected DUI driver in Gig Harbor

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A police officer was injured early Sunday when his patrol vehicle was hit by a suspected DUI driver in Gig Harbor, according to The News Tribune.

The Gig Harbor Police Department said the collision occurred in the 9000 block of Bujacich Road at approximately 2:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation shows a 24-year-old male driver crossed the center line and entered the oncoming lane, where he collided with the officer’s patrol vehicle.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, confirmed authorities.

The causing driver, who was not reported injured, was arrested at the scene after he was found to test over twice the legal limit for alcohol intoxication. He was expected to be booked into Pierce County Jail.
