News: Multiple agencies called to major crash, vehicle fire on I-5 in Federal Way

KING COUNTY, WA — A fiery crash Saturday morning prompted a multi-agency response on Interstate 5 in Federal Way, reports King 5.

The accident took place on the northbound side of I-5, just south of State Route 18. It was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation at about 6:00 a.m.

Officials have not disclosed the cause of the wreck, but at least one of the involved vehicles caught fire and remained engulfed in flames for nearly an hour.

No information regarding potential injuries has been released, but all northbound lanes of I-5 were blocked in the immediate aftermath. Washington State Patrol troopers, WSDOT’s Incident Response Team (IRT), and local firefighters all responded to the scene.

Traffic was later allowed to get by using the HOV lane, but motorists were advised to avoid the scene and find alternate routes.
