THURSTON COUNTY, WA — One person died early Wednesday when their motorcycle was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene in southeast Yelm, reports KOMO News.
Deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene in the 12900 block of Bald Hill Road Southeast at about 2:15 a.m., after a nearby resident reported hearing the sound of the crash.
Base on evidence collected at the scene, a driver in a Volkswagen Golf appears to have failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, veered past the centerline, and hit a motorcyclist in the northbound lane.
Officers arrived to find the rider down and unresponsive on the roadway. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed authorities.
A witness said the involved driver was picked up by a driver in another vehicle, which was last seen fleeing southbound on Bald Hill Road Southeast.
The Volkswagen Golf has since been impounded to be processed for further evidence. An investigation and search for the hit-and-run driver remain ongoing.
