YAKIMA COUNTY, WA — A 28-year-old man suffered multiple injuries last Friday in a crash after another driver failed to yield at a Yakima intersection, reports 107.3 KFFM.
The collision occurred at South 28th Avenue and Tieton Drive, near Yakima Valley Memorial Emergency Room, on August 26.
According to the Yakima Police Department, an 18-year-old driver failed to yield the right of way while turning from Tieton Drive, causing the motorcyclist to strike their vehicle.
Officials said the impact of that crash sent the rider off his motorcycle and onto a third vehicle that was waiting to turn at the intersection.
The rider was initially rushed to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital but then was transferred to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. Officials said he suffered several serious injuries, including a broken leg, multiple broken ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken hand.
The other driver, 18, was not reported hurt.
Police learned the teen driver did not have a license. “Driver inexperience” is believed to be the primary cause of the wreck.
An investigation remains ongoing.
