News: Motorcyclist hit, killed by vehicle on SR-167 in west Auburn

KING COUNTY, WA — A 51-year-old Puyallup resident died Thursday afternoon after their motorcycle was struck by a vehicle on State Route 167 in west Auburn, reports KOMO News.

The fatal wreck occurred on the southbound lanes of SR-167 approaching SR-18. It was first reported by Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson at 7:14 p.m.

According to officials, a 39-year-old man, also from Puyallup, was driving a pickup truck at a high rate of speed when the vehicle rear-ended the victim’s motorcycle.

The rider died as a result injuries suffered in the crash.

Two southbound lanes of SR-167 were blocked for about three hours as crews tended to the scene.

Though impairment did not contribute to the accident, the WSP said “speed, driving too closely and driver inattention” were factors.  Authorities have not specified any charges at this time.
