News: Motorcyclist dies after hitting car on Portland Ave in Tacoma

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 31-year-old man died Sunday evening after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle in southeast Tacoma, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

The fatal wreck occurred on Portland Avenue between East 43rd Street and East 44th Street, in the Salishan area, at about 5:46 p.m.

An early investigation indicates a car was traveling northbound on Portland Avenue when it began turning left from the center-turn lane toward a business.

It was not immediately clear who had the right-of-way, but officials said a motorcyclist heading southbound struck the car. The rider was rushed to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A section of Portland Avenue was shut down during the response and investigation.

The Tacoma Police Department’s Collision Investigation Team was leading the case.
