News: Man arrested after pair of crashes involving stolen van in SODO

SEATTLE, WA — A 40-year-old man was arrested Wednesday evening after crashing a vehicle into a fence and a patrol car in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood, reports KOMO News.

The incident occurred in the 700 block of South Andover Street at about 7:45 p.m.

According to the Seattle Police Department, officers spotted a van that had been reported stolen and attempted to talk to the driver. As the driver drove away, the van slammed into a chain-link fence outside a business and then reversed into a patrol vehicle.

Officers later found the van, which was left running over railway tracks at the intersection of West Marginal Way Southwest and Southwest Alaska Street. After following a set of footprints in the snow, police found the suspect seated on a park bench. He was taken into custody and then booked into King County Jail for an investigation into eluding and possession of a stolen vehicle.
