BELLEVUE & TACOMA, WA – A man was arrested in connection with multiple hit-and-run crashes that claimed the life of an 88-year-old woman and injured another.
KOMO first reported the hit-and-run crashes on Sunday, Mar. 8. The source said the first hit-and-run collision took place outside a Bellevue YMCA before 7 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, according to Krio7 and court documents.
The male suspect waited outside the YMCA for an hour, hoping to crash into a victim with his white Toyota Camry car. The suspect, identified as 68-year-old Mark Adams, saw his opportunity when he saw an 88-year-old woman walking through the parking lot.
Adams saw his opportunity and hit the woman with his car. The woman was carried for 120 feet before falling into the ground and getting run over by the car.
The woman died from her injuries at the scene. She has since been identified as Shinko Oshimo.
Adams fled the scene prior to the first responders’ arrival. Adams then drove to Tacoma and attempted to run over a skateboarder with his car. This incident happened around 10 a.m., and the skateboarder was able to get off the road.
The final incident happened before 12:40 p.m. when Adams tried to crash his car into a pickup truck, but missed and decided to run over a pedestrian. The pedestrian went over the hood and sustained a spinal fracture.
Officials explained that they did obtain Adams’ license plate number and did hear about the deadly crash with Oshimo, but could not track him down until the other hit-and-run incidents unfolded.
Authorities arrested Adams. He is being charged with first-degree premeditated murder and hit and run resulting in death.
