News: KCSO deputies treated, driver arrested after fiery crash near Burien home

KING COUNTY, WA — Three deputies suffered smoke inhalation-related injuries Tuesday morning after a welfare check led to a fiery vehicle crash near northeast Burien, reports KOMO News.

The events unfolded in the 11600 block of 16th Avenue South shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Authorities said a nearby resident had reported a male driver and a female passenger asleep in a red two-seater Mazda Miata coup outside her home.

When responding deputies went to approach the vehicle, the male driver attempted to drive away but crashed the sports car down a steep decline off the side of the roadway.

The impact of the crash caused the car to catch fire. Both occupants were briefly trapped inside the vehicle but were able to exit.

Officers arrested the driver and booked him into the King County Jail for outstanding warrants in previous cases. The female passenger was not taken into custody and left the scene on foot.
