MARYSVILLE, WA – A jury found a man guilty of a deadly collision that killed a trooper on Interstate 5 near Marysville on March 2, 2024, according to KING 5.
Raul Benitez-Santana was allegedly impaired and driving at 107 mph when he passed a semi-truck, went onto the side of the road, and crashed into Trooper Christopher Gadd’s patrol vehicle around 3 a.m.
First responders pronounced Gadd dead at the scene.
Authorities arrested Benitez-Santana and charged him with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault while under the influence. Benitez-Santana told police he had consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana earlier that night.
A jury found Benitez-Santana guilty of both charges on Tuesday.
