News: Jackknifed semis block SR-18 EB near Covington, Maple Valley

KING COUNTY, WA — Two different semi-trucks jackknifed Tuesday morning, closing parts of eastbound State Route 18 near Covington and Maple Valley, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The accidents occurred on the eastbound lanes at State Route 516 in the Covington area and at State Route 169 in Maple Valley. They were first reported by WSDOT shortly after 7:00 a.m., when crews had just finished clearing the Covington wreck.

Officials did not say what caused the semis to jackknife, but the incidents occurred back-to-back. In both cases, the eastbound highway was completely blocked.

By 8:27 a.m., the jackknife crash in Maple Valley had been cleared to the right shoulder, restoring all lanes to traffic. Commuters were urged to reduce speed and use extra caution while passing the scene.
