News: IRT, WSP respond to crash on I-5 SB near Seattle Convention Center

SEATTLE, WA — Authorities were called to a vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon that blocked two right lanes on Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The accident happened on the southbound lanes just north of Union Street, under the Seattle Convention Center in the Central Business District. It was first recorded by WSDOT at 1:50 p.m.

Details are limited, but by 2:00 p.m., WSDOT’s Incident Response Team (IRT) and the Washington State Patrol had responded to the scene.

Video captured at the scene suggests at least two vehicles were involved. One of vehicles appears to have been hauling a trailer that overturned.

Motorists were warned of delays impacting the area as crews worked to clear debris in the roadway.

By 2:33 p.m., the scene had been cleared and all lanes were announced reopened, though a number of vehicles remained in the gore point, presenting a visual distraction.

No injuries were immediately reported.
