News: Impairment suspected in head-on collision involving Port Orchard Officer

PORT ORCHARD, WA – Impairment was a contributing factor in a head-on collision that involved a Port Orchard police officer on Thursday. 

Komo News said the crash happened before 2 a.m. on Southeast Lund Avenue near Sidney Avenue. 

A 21-year-old man, driving a BMW, was speeding, which caused him to lose control of his car and drift into the opposite lane, and crash head-on into a fully marked Port Orchard Police Department Ford Explorer.

EMS crews transported the police officer and BMW driver to Tacoma General Hospital. The officer is recovering from minor injuries, and the BMW driver from serious injuries. 

Officials said both vehicles were completely damaged. 

As of this writing, no arrest has been reported.
