TUMWATER, WA – Tumwater Police suspect impairment was a contributing factor in a chain-reaction crash with injuries on Saturday, KomoNews reports.
Tumwater Police said the collision happened before 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of North Street and Hoadley Street. Police said they suspected a 33-year-old woman, driving a Ford Explorer, was impaired and speeding when she rear-ended a Hyundai Santa Fe.
The two vehicles spun around and crashed into a tree and a light pole. Police also said two other vehicles were struck in this chain-reaction crash.
EMS crews rushed the suspected impaired driver, and Hyundai passengers — including a 10-year-old child — to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. First responders later transported the 10-year-old child to Mary Bridge Hospital.
Police confirmed they obtained a search warrant in their investigation into suspected DUI and vehicular assault. The 33-year-old woman is continuing to recover at Harborview.
Police said that once the 33-year-old woman is released, they will book her into the Thurston County Jail for vehicular assault.
