CENTRALIA, WA – Washington State Patrol said speed and impairment are strong factors behind a pursuit-turned-crash that sent a 19-year-old woman to a hospital on Tuesday.
King5 said the pursuit began in Cowlitz County and was initiated by Castle Rock Police. The driver, a 20-year-old adult, was going over 100mph when they first crashed into a Ford F-150 pickup truck on I-5 North near milepost 81. Later, the suspect lost control of their 2014 Nissan Altima, which caused it to crash, overturn, and fall on top of another vehicle on the Mellen Street Overpass off I-5.
Prior to the Nissan overturning, it crashed into a median. One passenger inside — the 19-year-old woman — was taken to the emergency room for unspecified injuries.
The two other passengers inside the Nissan — a 14-month-old child, and a 20-year-old man — were both uninjured. The drivers of the first and second vehicles were also not hurt.
Criminal charges are possible for the suspect.
