News: Hundreds lose power after car crashes into utility pole in Kent

KING COUNTY, WA — A power outage was reported early Tuesday morning after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole in central Kent, according to KOMO News.

The accident took place at the corner of 4th Avenue and West James Street, north of Kent Station, shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Authorities have not released any information regarding the cause of the wreck, but a nearby resident said she saw multiple people, including a child, exit a minivan in the aftermath.

At least one utility pole collapsed and a telephone pole caught fire as a result of the collision. At about 10:20 a.m., 270 Puget Sound Energy customers were reported to be without power. According to PSE, 218 of those outages were due to the “accident,” while 49 were attributed to “equipment failure.” The event affect multiple area business systems, including Sound Transit, since power was also cut at Kent Station.

Officials projected that power would be restored to the area at about 4:30 p.m.

At this time, the cause of the collision has not been reported.
