News: Emergency crews contain natural gas leak near Georgetown neighborhood

SEATTLE, WA – Authorities say a “major” natural gas leak at a commercial building near the Georgetown neighborhood was contained by emergency crews on Friday afternoon.

According to KING 5 TV, dangerous levels of natural gas were reported at a building on the 7000 block of Airport Way South around 2:45 p.m.

In response, all buildings in the surrounding area were evacuated and power was shut down by Seattle City Light. Crews with Puget Sound Energy (PSE) successfully contained the leak and the air was ventilated by Seattle Fire.

An update was provided by Seattle Fire around 5:30 p.m. that the area was safe and cleared by firefighters. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.

Officials said King County Airport and Boeing Field were temporarily shut down while crews responded to the leak.
