News: Elementary school in Tacoma evacuated after smoke reported

TACOMA, WA – An elementary school in Tacoma was evacuated yesterday after staff discovered smoke coming from a pair of classrooms, KOMO reports.

Firefighters were called to Lowell Elementary School—located at 810 N 13th Street—at about 1:30 p.m. yesterday, and arrived to find that students and staff had already evacuated the building. No flames were present.

Crews entered the school and reported an electrical smell as well as smoke coming from two separate classrooms. Backup was called to aid in a thorough investigation. After determining that the smoke did not originate in the building’s electrical system, firefighters allowed people back into the building, telling staff to be on the lookout for any further issues.

It does not appear that anyone was injured at this time. We will update this blog if we learn more.
