News: DUI suspect critically hurt in collision on SR-99 near central Lynnwood

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A suspected DUI driver was critically injured Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 99 near central Lynnwood, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

Lynnwood Police Department said the wreck occurred near 200th Street Southwest, while officers were actively searching for a reported erratic driver in the area.

Authorities later learned the suspect driver, who was traveling in a black Econoline van, had rear-ended a pickup truck at high speed.

South County Fire crews had to perform a rescue extrication to remove the suspect from his van. He was then rushed to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries.

The driver of the pickup was not reported hurt.

An investigation was underway, but Lynnwood police said they suspect the driver of the van was impaired during the crash, noting that they also found traces of narcotics in his vehicle.
