SEATTLE, WA — A woman was taken into custody Wednesday morning after Seattle Police used a PIT maneuver to end a pursuit on Interstate 5 near Seattle’s Georgetown area, reports King 5.
The fleeing vehicle was forced to come to a stop on the northbound lanes near Michigan Street, after having sideswiped multiple other vehicles. The incident was first reported by King 5 at 11:02 a.m.
Washington State Patrol troopers said they first observed a female driver who appeared impaired near the Federal Way rest area. The driver sped away and crashed into a patrol vehicle after troopers tried to approach her.
Officials said the fleeing driver was seen swerving in and out of traffic before the WSP received permission to pursue her. Several WSP vehicles deployed a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver, causing the fleeing vehicle to turn 180 degrees and stop.
No injuries were reported following the PIT-induced crash, but the suspect was taken into custody at the scene. The WSP noted there was a felony warrant for her arrest.
Three right lanes were closed in the aftermath of the wreck, but all lanes were reopened shortly before noon.
