KING COUNTY, WA — Two people were injured, one critically, early Monday due to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 405 in north Renton, reports KOMO News.
The collision occurred on the northbound interstate just north of Northeast 30th Street. First reported at about 3:00 a.m., the scene kept multiple lanes closed for hours.
According to the Washington State Patrol Trooper and photos taken at the scene, the driver of a passenger car rear-ended a semi-truck. The passenger in the striking vehicle suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, along with one other patient.
Authorities did not say whether that other person was the causing driver, who was taken into custody for suspected impairment.
Multiple emergency crews, including Renton Regional Fire Authority, King County Medic 1, and the Bellevue Fire Department, joined the WSP during the emergency response.
The multi-lane closure created a traffic backup at least 6 miles long during morning rush hour. Shortly before 9:00 a.m., all lanes were reopened to traffic.
No further details have been released at this time.
