News: Driver runs red light, leading to injury multi-vehicle crash in North Seattle 

NORTH SEATTLE, WA – A female driver, who experienced a mental health crisis, ran a red light, which led to a multi-vehicle crash that injured several people on Tuesday. 

According to Seattle police, the collision occurred at the intersection of Aurora Avenue North and North 130th Street. The driver, with a mental health crisis, was going north on Aurora and veered into a bus lane. Moments later, she ran a red light, sideswiped a car, crashed into a van, and three more vehicles. 

The force of the collision caused the van to overturn. A man was entrapped as a result and was extricated by Seattle fire crews. 

Firefighters said several people were involved. The injured patients were between 6 and 63 years old. 

Ambulance crews transported several people, including the female driver, to Harborview Medical Center. Police did not arrest the woman, but cited her for several traffic violations.

First responders transported the woman to a hospital to undergo a mental health evaluation.  

Two truck crews removed the overturned van and the woman’s vehicle. 

Authorities shut down the intersection for a couple of hours to accommodate the scene clearance and investigation.
