KITTITAS COUNTY, WA — A 51-year-old Missouri man died last Friday evening after a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 90 in Snoqualmie Pass, reports the Washington State Patrol.
The fatal crash happened on the westbound lanes near milepost 52, on May 20, shortly before 6:00 p.m.
According to the WSP, the victim was driving a 2006 GMC westbound at a high rate of speed and closely behind a semi-truck. At one point, the GMC collided with, and became stuck to, the semi. The GMC then dislodged from the semi and veered to right side of the road, where it hit a tree before coming to rest on the right shoulder.
Authorities said the driver of the GMC was pronounced deceased at the scene. The WSP press memo indicates he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The driver of the semi, a 28-year-old Canadian resident, was not reported injured.
All westbound lanes were blocked for about an hour during the emergency response and investigation.
At this time, no further information has been released.
