KING COUNTY, WA — A 44-year-old Lynnwood woman died last Friday, August 12, in a motorcycle wreck that left a child injured on Interstate 405 near Tukwila, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The fatal accident happened on the HOV bypass from I-405 southbound to the northbound lanes of I-5. WSP troopers responded to the scene shortly after 8:43 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the woman was operating a light-blue 2020 Harley-Davidson FLTRXS motorcycle with a 9-year-old female passenger when failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Moments later, she lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to strike a light pole.
Officials said both riders were ejected in the impact of the crash and landed on the right shoulder, along with the motorcycle.
The driver, who was not wearing a United States Department of Transportation-compliant helmet, died from her injuries at the scene.
The juvenile rider suffered undisclosed injuries and was rushed to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. She was wearing a USDOT-approved helmet at the time of the wreck.
WSP said the motorcycle was totaled in the accident and was towed from the site.
