News: Driver hurt in rollover crash after falling asleep on Blewett Pass

KITTITAS COUNTY, WA — A 20-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after a single-vehicle rollover wreck on Blewett Pass, according to NCW Life Channel.

The accident happened on the southbound lanes of U.S Highway 97, about two miles from the summit of the pass. It was first reported shortly after 12:45 p.m.

An early investigation by the Washington State Patrol indicates the young man was driving a 2017 Ford Fusion southbound when he fell asleep behind the wheel. The Ford veered off the roadway and hit a rock, causing the car to roll several times.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth. Authorities said he is expected to be charged for negligent driving and not having a driver’s license.

Multiple lanes on the northbound highway were blocked for about two hours during the response.
