News: Driver hospitalized after running red light in central Lynnwood

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A 56-year-old man was seriously injured Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle collision after running a red light in central Lynnwood, reports Lynnwood Today.

Police said the crash happened in the 5800 block of 196th Street Southwest, near Scriber Lake Park.

A preliminary investigation indicates the man was driving an SUV westbound on the road when he failed to stop at the red light and hit another vehicle making a left turn onto Scriber Lake Road.

The man suffered a serious head injury and was rushed to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 53-year-old woman, was not reported injured.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and had to be towed from the scene. The suspect had also hit a nearby traffic light pole, resulting in structural damage.

All westbound lanes of 196th Street Southwest were shut down during the response but reopened about an hour later.

An investigation remains underway, but authorities have ruled out impairment as a factor in the crash.
