News: Driver dies after USPS truck crashes off SR-8 near Elma

GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, WA — A 25-year-old man was found deceased late Wednesday morning after a USPS mail truck crashed down an embankment near Elma, reports KOMO News.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the fatal wreck occurred on the westbound highway, east of the city. Troopers were called to the scene shortly before 10:00 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the man was driving the box truck, which was carrying Amazon packages, when it veered off the roadway and dropped 65 feet down the embankment.

Troopers arrived to find the victim had died from his injuries.

Officials also noted the engine of the truck had gone cold.

An investigation into the cause of the accident was underway.

Crews with the McCleary Fire Department responded to the site with a fire truck to help block one traffic lane. At one point, the truck was hit by a passing driver who did not reduce speed, but no one was reported injured in that collision.
