News: Driver dies after rollover semi crash on I-5 express lanes near Cascade area

SEATTLE, WA — One person died late Friday morning after a semi-truck overturned on Interstate 5 near Seattle’s Cascade neighborhood, reports KOMO News.

The Seattle Fire Department said the fatal accident occurred on the southbound express lanes, just south of Mercer Street. It was first reported at about 11:10 a.m.

While the circumstances of the collision were not immediately clear, the Washington State Patrol confirmed the driver died from their injuries at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported, but Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) officials said a “small fuel spill” prompted a response from the Department of Ecology.

All express lanes were projected to stay blocked for an extended time as crews worked to clear the scene. Motorists were instructed to avoid the area and take alternate routes.
