KITSAP COUNTY, WA — A 72-year-old man died Thursday afternoon after his pickup truck collided with a school bus near south Port Orchard, according to Gig Harbor Now.
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal accident occurred at the corner of Sidney Road Southwest and Southwest Spruce Road. Officials responded to the scene shortly after 4:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found the man was driving a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck westbound on Spruce Road when he ran a stop sign at the intersection. Officials said the pickup entered the path of a South Kitsap School District bus heading northbound on Sidney Road, causing a crash.
The driver of the pickup, a resident of Gig Harbor, died as a result of his injuries, confirmed the sheriff’s office.
Medics treated the bus driver for minor injuries at the scene.
Authorities noted the school bus was not transporting any students at the time of the crash.
An investigation remains ongoing, but alcohol and speed are not believed to have been factors.
