News: Distracted driver fatally strikes stranded motorist on I-5 in Tacoma

TACOMA, WA – A motorist was fatally struck on I-5 this morning as he changed a tire in the right-hand shoulder, KIRO reports.

The fatal collision took place in collector-divider section at S 38th Street at about 9:20 a.m. on Monday, May 10. Washington State Patrol troopers pronounced the victim dead at the scene, and arrested the motorist who hit him on suspicion of vehicular homicide. She told them that she had been distracted by her cellphone at the time of the crash.

The right two lanes of the interstate were closed while investigations were conducted. They opened again later today.
