News: Crews respond to crash on I-5 SB offramp near Portage Bay

SEATTLE, WA — A collision and ongoing road treatment kept an Interstate 5 exit ramp blocked near Seattle’s Portage Bay neighborhood, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Emergency crews responded to the scene on the Exit 168B ramp from I-5 southbound to State Route 520 shortly before 7:00 a.m.

Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances of the crash, but a WSDOT plow truck was on the scene treating the roadway, which had become slick. It was unclear whether the slick conditions caused the wreck or was caused by a resulting spill.

Motorists traveling from north of the Ship Canal Bridge and heading toward SR-520 were advised to find alternate routes.

SECOND UPDATE: We’re running one of our plow/treatment trucks on this southbound I-5 off-ramp to SR 520 in #Seattle as things are a bit slick through here. The ramp remains closed until we can get it treated.

At 7:28 a.m., Seattle Fire Department crews were also on the scene, closing the left northbound lane.

THIRD UPDATE: @SeattleFire is now on scene responding for the collision, as is our plow truck to continue treating. This is fully blocking the SB I-5 off-ramp to SR 520. The left lane on the the NB I-5 off-ramp to SR 520 is also blocked.

By 8:11 a.m., the scene had been cleared, with the entire ramp and all other lanes reopened to traffic.
