News: Crews respond to accident on I-5 SB near Cascade area

SEATTLE, WA — Emergency crews responded to a crash Monday morning on Interstate 5 near Seattle’s South Lake Union and Cascade areas, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The collision took place on the southbound lanes just south of Mercer Street. It was first reported by WSDOT at 9:10 a.m.

Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the wreck or disclosed details on the parties involved, but up to two right lanes were blocked in the immediate aftermath.

Video captured at the scene shows at least two fire engines responding to the scene.

By 9:44 a.m., more than 30 minutes later, crews had cleared out of the roadway and all lanes were reopened to normal traffic.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured in the event.
