SEATTLE, WA — A rollover crash involving a cement truck Thursday afternoon closed all lanes of the State Route 520 floating bridge connecting Bellevue and Seattle, reports King 5.
The Washington State Department of Transportation said the accident happened on the westbound lanes at around 12:30 p.m.
Troopers with the Washington State Patrol said the wind carried a garbage can onto the roadway, prompting traffic to swerve around it. A driver in a cement truck veered partially up a barrier, causing the vehicle to overturn.
The driver sustained minor injuries, but it was unclear whether they had to be taken to a hospital.
According to the WSP, the truck was transporting 30,000 pounds of concrete in its drum at the time of the rollover. No cement spilled out, but a small volume of fuel leaked onto the roadway.
All westbound lanes between 92nd Avenue Northeast in Bellevue and Interstate 90 in Seattle were closed in the aftermath. By 2:00 p.m., the highway was shut down in both directions as crews worked to clear the accident.
At 3:30 p.m., all eastbound lanes reopened, and just after 4:00 p.m., all westbound lanes were also reopened.
